A Fishing Village, Malaysia East Coast

The East Coast States are made up of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang; and parts of Johor. Terengganu has the longest stretch of coastline and Kelantan being the least. Refer map here.

In total, 700 km of coastline is facing the South China Sea and with this, lots and lots of fishing grounds could be obtained. However, Malaysia is still in its infancy when its comes to deep sea fishing. But with assistance from the local government, we are slowing heading towards the open sea.

Here, sampans or small boat seen in this art are mainly used near the coastline or at estuaries and rivers. The houses stand near the coastline and high enough as to avoid the high tide. However, scene like this would be quite hard to find anymore with the coming of age and the migration of the young to the cities. This is the artist impression of the old days.
