A Melaka House I

Melaka is the third smallest state in Malaysia after Perlis and Pulau Pinang. Despite its size, Melaka is one of the most richest state in terms of historical heritage and cultures. Thus in 7 July 2008, Melaka together with George Town in Pulau Pinang were given the recognition by UNESCO and were listed as a World Heritage Site. These cities are now referred to as the Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca.

The art depicts a Melaka House and one of its significant architectural element is the front stairs. The stairs, a construction of bricks and mortar with colourful geometrical patterned tiles as finishes, signify the intergration of Chinese architectural elements with the Melaka Malay’s.
